Last year saw the publication of my second book for University Press of Mississippi, Creating the Jazz Solo: Louis Armstrong and Barbershop Harmony. I look forward to reading the reviews. I was also asked to present at Satchmo Summerfest in New Orleans last year.
I started 2019 in Reno at the Jazz Education Network Conference. The Traditional Jazz Society within JEN is now formed and I used some of my time at the Hogan Jazz Archive on a Björn Bärnheim Research Fellowship last year to collect up some arrangements that may be published under the JENTJS banner.
On the playing front, I recorded two albums with Roy Mette, Mandy Graham, and Dave McCarthy at Coach House Studios run by Paul Madden in Hesdin, France. The first of these has been released “We Can Move Mountains.” The band is called Dangerous Daydreams. The plan is to start touring with the band this year.
